Barrow County Schools Announce Winter Weather Plans

Due to the inclement weather that hit the area on Tuesday, Jan. 28, and a continuing winter weather warning, Barrow County Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Barrow County students were dismissed early today due to the inclement weather. The snow that fell today is expected to ice overnight, leading to treacherous conditions on area roadways tomorrow morning.

"Because of the icy road conditions expected for Wednesday, school will be closed for the safety of our students and staff. All after school activities are cancelled as well," School Superintendent Wanda Creel wrote in an email to parents and staff.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Barrow County which remains in effect until 7 a.m. Wednesday.
