AHS Theatre Production Takes First Place at Region 8-AAAAA Competition

Two students received medals for top acting awards.

The Apalachee High School Theatre group was recently honored for their one-act performance of "Sylvia."

The students performed the one-act play -- a short version of "Sylvia" -- during the Oct. 19 Region 8-AAAAA competition at Heritage High School in Conyers, Ga. AHS won first place and will compete against other AAAAA schools during the state competition scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 2, at Perry High School in Perry, Ga.

Several AHS students also received individual honors. Carly Baker was awarded the Best Actress medal and David Martin took home the Best Actor medal. Jordan Cox and Hope Mobley received all-star cast certificates.

As part of the competition, theatre members had to set up, perform and strike the set in 55 minutes or less. According to a press release, stage manager Harley Weiss directed the crew to set up and strike the set in under 40 seconds for a winning overall time of 54 minutes and 19 seconds.

Crew members included  Kiana Bailey, Marissa Bridges, Alexis Chesser, Alex Foster, Grace Gerely, Kirstein Gilbert, Dravon Lehman, Patrick Johnson, Grace Nelms, Caleb Nelson, Austin Story, Jon-Michael Shelley and Haley Williams.
