Toddler Dies After Being Struck by Mother's Vehicle

The mother was dropping the 14-month-old child off at a relative's home.

The Barrow County Sheriff's Office is investigating what an official described as a "tragic incident" at a Winder home.

On Wednesday, Dec. 4, around noon, a 14-month-old child was struck and killed by a vehicle in the driveway of a Bowman Terrace home. The accident happened as the mother was dropping the child off at his grandmother's residence.

"When the mother prepared to leave, the child unknowingly got behind the vehicle and was struck and killed," Lt. Matt Guthas of the BCSO said in a released statement. "The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident to determine if any laws were violated. At this time, the evidence indicates this tragic incident was an accident."

The investigation is ongoing.
