Man Told to Call 911, Not His Mother

The 24-year-old man reportedly called his mother instead of authorities after hearing a door knob turn and a male say "Just break the window."

A 24-year-old Maysville man said he became frightened when he heard a door knob turning and a discussion about breaking into his aunt's Winder home.

The man was at his aunt's Oxford Ridge residence on Sept. 12 when he heard noises at the front door and then heard a male say, "Just break the window."

At that point, the man turned on a light inside the house and then saw two males wearing all black clothing walk away from the residence.

The man, according to the Barrow County Sheriff's Office incident report, did not immediately call 911 but did call his mother. The man explained the house had been broken into a year ago and he did not know if she call the authorities because he did not want to scare his aunt.

"[The man] was told anytime he hears someone trying to get into a house and hears them verbally state to break-in, he needs to call 911 right then, not his mother," the deputy wrote in the report.
