Downtown Winder Road Work Resumes Following Holiday Weekend

Overnight road closures are planned.

Overnight work on SR 11/Broad Street in Winder resumes this week.

Crews will work on the installation of a new electrical conduit and storm drain pipes, weather permitting. A single lane closure will begin at 9 p.m. and continue until 6 a.m. the next day, from Monday, July 8, through Thursday night, July 11.

Through Friday nights, the outside southbound lane will be closed from Midland Avenue to Candler Street for conduit installation and drainage pipe installation. These are the only overnight lane closures planned this week and will occur if weather permits.

Daytime work on retaining walls will continue daily along the eastern side of SR 11/Broad Street in front of Locos, Skip's Hawaiian Ice and American Pest Control. Sidewalk construction will also occur daily near Head Games Salon.

This .72-mile long, almost $5 million project has a completion date of July 31, 2014. The project will rebuild SR 11/Broad Street from the ground up, creating a stronger driving surface that the DOT says will last decades. Enhancement work includes new sidewalks, curb and gutter, benches, lighting and landscaping.
