A pan left on a stove unattended started a kitchen fire at a Bethlehem resident Wednesday. Communication officers with Barrow County Emergency Services received a 911 call reporting a house fire in the 400 block of Wilshire Lane. Upon arrival, firefighters found light smoke showing in the house. “The homeowner advised that the fire had started in the kitchen but he believed it was almost out,” Lieutenant Alan Williams said in a news release. Engine 7, Engine 4, Med 3 and Med 7 responded to this call. Upon entry into the home, firefighters found the fire had been almost extinguished with some fire still showing from the microwave and cabinets. A family of eight — two adults and six children — was displaced following an evening house fire Thursday. Communication officers with Barrow County Emergency Services received a 911 call just after 8 p.m. reporting a house fire at 731 Worth Court in Bethlehem. Ladder Truck 7, Engine 3, Med 7, Med 3 and Battalion 1 responded. “Upon arrival of firefighters, heavy fire was found across the roofline and attic of the structure,” Lieutenant Scott Dakin, public information officer, said in a news release. “Firefighters quickly started a defensive attack to bring the fire under control utilizing the ladder truck.” Firefighters worked to bring the fire under control from a defensive position. A Winder man has been charged with arson after Barrow County Sheriff's Office investigators say he burned down the residence he was renting. Richard Evan Page, 33, was arrested April 2 following a two-week investigation into a suspicious fire at 315 E. Wright St., Apartment B, in Winder. He has been charged with arson in the first degree and criminal damage to property in the second degree. Law enforcement say Page intentionally started a fire March 19 that consumed the entire structure and initially told fire officials he did not know how the blaze started. At 8:19 p.m., communication officers received a 911 call reporting a structure fire at 315 E. Wright St. Firefighters responded and found a home heavily involved in fire. Engine 3, Engine 6, Med 6, and Battalion 1 responded to the incident. The fire caused extensive damage to the structure. At 12:12 a.m. Friday, March 15, communication officers with Barrow County Emergency Services received a 911 call reporting smoke coming from a home on Carter Road. Engine 4, Engine 5, Med 5 and Battalion 1 responded and found light smoke showing from the structure. Upon entry, firefighters found a fire in a closet area of the home. The fire was quickly extinguished and the home suffered light smoke and fire damage. The Fire Investigation Team determined the cause of the fire to be hot embers from a cigarette. An initial investigation into a home fire Saturday morning determined the blaze was caused by arson. A deputy with the Barrow County Sheriff's Office on patrol on Princeton Drive found smoke coming from a home in the 1400 block just before 8:30 a.m. and called the fire in, at which time communication officers with Barrow County Emergency Services dispatched firefighters. “Upon our arrival we found smoke coming from the eaves of the house,” Lt. Darryl Skinner, who was in charge of the scene, said in a news release. “We made entry into the house and found heavy smoke in the interior of the home making for low visibility.” Firefighters worked quickly to bring the fire under control, but the house suffered extensive damage. Barrow County Emergency Services personnel responded to multiple fires this week, including a residential fire, a blaze at a local middle school and a business fire. At 3:25 a.m. Wednesday, communication officers received a 911 call reporting a fire at 1093 Dee Kennedy Road. “Upon arrival of firefighters we found the home to be heavily involved with fire through the roof,” Battalion Chief Rob Nowakowski said in a news release. “We had to fight the fire from the outside of the home due to the amount of fire.” Firefighting efforts were hampered by the collapse of the roof and floor into the basement of the home, which resulted in extensive damage.
