Barrow County Woman Injured in Traffic Accident Involving Tractor-Trailer

The accident early Wednesday closed one lane of Atlanta Highway in Bogart, Ga.

The Georgia State Patrol reports a 57-year-old Statham woman was transported to Athens Regional Medical Center on Wednesday morning for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries after her car collided with a tractor-trailer in Bogart. About 5:50 a.m. the woman, driving a Hyundai, attempted to make a left turn from Osceola Avenue onto Atlanta Highway and pulled into the path of an oncoming tractor trailer, according to an information officer with the GSP. The car was hit in its side. The Oconee County Sheriff's Office sent out an advisory through Nixle about 6:20 a.m., stating traffic had been reduced to one lane as a result of the accident. Georgia State Patrol: Six Killed in Traffic Crashes During New Year's Travel Period

The holiday travel period began at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28 and ended at midnight Tuesday, Jan. 1.

Six people were killed in traffic crashes in Georgia over the 102-hour new year's holiday travel period, which began Friday and ended Tuesday. Fatal traffic crashes were reported by Georgia State Patrol posts in Athens, Madison and Valdosta, as well as Cobb County police, Perry police and Macon police. The Georgia State Patrol investigated 585 traffic crashes during the holiday period with 266 injuries reported. Early activity reports show state troopers arrested 321 people for driving under the influence. Last year, during a 78-hour holiday period, state troopers investigated 296 crashes that resulted in 172 injuries. Troopers investigated seven of the 13 fatal crashes reported statewide and arrested 262 people for impaired driving.  The …

Traffic Accidents Result in 17 Deaths During Holiday Travel Period, Including Fatality in Barrow County

The 102-hour travel period ended at midnight Dec. 25.

A total of 17 traffic deaths, including that of a Buford man driving in Barrow County, were reported in Georgia over the 102-hour holiday travel period, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The travel period began at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, and ended at midnight Tuesday, Dec. 25.  Corey Scott Appling, 29, was killed about 7:40 p.m. Dec. 21 when the 1996 Toyota Tacoma he was driving crossed the centerline on Rockwell Church Road, 0.3 miles west of Moons Bridge Road, and collided head-on with a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier. Alcohol is not believed to have been involved, and the victim was not wearing a seatbelt. Buford Man Killed in Barrow County Crash

A second motorist was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

A Buford resident was killed in a head-on crash in Barrow County on Friday, Dec. 21, according to the Georgia State Patrol.  Corey Scott Appling, 29, was killed about 7:40 p.m. when the 1996 Toyota Tacoma he was driving crossed the centerline on Rockwell Church Road, 0.3 miles west of Moons Bridge Road, and hit a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier. Alcohol is not believed to have been involved, and the victim was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the Chevrolet, Connie Sue Wallace, 46, of Winder, was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center for treatment. Traffic Accidents in Barrow County over Thanksgiving Total 18, Four Resulting in Injuries

Statewide, 19 traffic fatalities occurred over the Thanksgiving holiday travel period.

According to the Barrow County Sheriff's Office, 18 traffic accidents occurred in Barrow from Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 22, through Sunday, Nov. 25. Four of those accidents resulted in injuries. An accident off Rockwell Church Road and Dogwood Trail on Saturday, Nov. 24, required an individual to be life-flighted to an area hospital. Georgia State Patrol officers worked that accident.  In 2011, there were 19 accidents in Barrow County over the Thanksgiving holiday travel period, with four of those accidents involving injuries.  Over the 102-hour Thanksgiving holiday travel period from 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, and midnight Monday, Nov. 26, 19 traffic fatalities occurred across the state of Georgia.  GSP officers investigated a …

Charges Filed Against Florida Woman Involved in Double-Fatal 316 Wreck

Diane Noles Stotler, 65, faces two counts of homicide by vehicle in the second degree after an investigation by the Georgia State Patrol into the June 2011 accident on Ga. 316 near Jimmy Daniel Road. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

A 65-year-old Orange Park, Florida woman has been charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle in the second degree stemming from an investigation into the June 15, 2011 crash on Ga. 316 that killed two Oconee County residents. According to earlier reports, Diane Noles Stotler was driving a Acura MDX when she struck a Toyota Camry occupied by Bishop couple Denghui Cheng, 58, and his wife, Caixia Geng, 57, near Jimmy Daniel Road in Oconee County.  Both died at the scene. Stolter and a teenage passenger in her vehicle were transported to hospitals for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Elderly Man Killed Trying To Beat Train – Cartersville Patch One person was killed in a train-car crash on Cass-White Road near U.S. 411 in Cartersville Wednesday morning. Three Killed in Highway 82 Crash

Alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor.

A two-vehicle crash claimed the lives of three Winder residents Saturday evening. Georgia State Patrol public information officer Gordy Wright said the crash occurred around 10:50 p.m. on Georgia Highway 82, approximately a tenth of a mile west of Holsenbeck School Road. David Michael Varnum, 53; John Willis Collins, 61 and Wanda Jean Collins, 54, were killed in the crash. According to Wright, Varnum was driving his 1995 Chevrolet Camaro east on Highway 82 when he crossed the centerline and struck the Collins’ 2001 Ford Taurus head-on. “Alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor and a blood test will be performed on Mr. Varnum to confirm,” Wright said in a released statement. There were no other injuries.

Drunks stink! The only punishment strong enough for killing innocent drivers is that the drunk is killed in the same accident. At least they won't do it again. I am sick of hearing DUI drivers being on the roads. Absolutely NO excuse for getting stinking drunk and then getting behind the wheel. It makes me FURIOUS.   more ›
