Unofficial Election Results Show Smith Re-elected Sheriff, Worley to Keep Commission Seat

While Barrow County has many uncontested races on Tuesday's ballot, voters were asked to decide between candidates for sheriff and the District 3 county commission seat.

Unofficial elections results show two incumbents will keep their elected positions — Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith and District 3 Commissioner Steve Worley have won their re-election campaigns.  By the numbers  With 24,354 votes cast in the sheriff's race, including absentee ballots and advance voting results, Smith received 19,099 votes (78.42 percent) to James Scott Sr.'s 5,236 (21.5 percent), with 19 write-in votes cast.  Of 3,391 votes cast in the race for the District 3 seat on the Barrow County Board of Commissioners, Worley received 2,048 (60.4 percent) to Johnny C. Campaigning Not Just for Those Old Enough to Vote

Despite chilly temperatures, Winder sisters stood outside a Barrow County polling location holding a sign in support of a candidate for Barrow County sheriff.

Meg Folsom danced around outside the Winder Community Center — one of several polling locations in Barrow County — on Election Day holding a sign in support of her uncle.  Meg, who will celebrate her 10th birthday Wednesday, was joined by her sister, 16-year-old Courtney Jane Folsom.  "We're showing our support 'cause we can't vote," Courtney Jane said.  The sisters are nieces of Jud Smith, incumbent candidate for the office of Barrow County sheriff. Barrow Patch is at the Barrow County Administration Building waiting for elections results. This article will be updates as results come in. Please note results are unofficial until certified by the Georgia Secretary of State's Office.  8:24 p.m. — Two of 16 precincts reporting with Romney with 1,057 to Obama's 295 and Gary Johnson with 43 votes. Georgia Votes: 2012 Election Results

Charter school amendment appears headed for win.

UPATE 5:50 pm If you are in line to vote at 7 pm, you will get to vote even though the polls close then. Tens of thousands of Fulton County voters have already cast ballots today. Turnout is especially high for today’s General Election, as it is in most Presidential election years. It's too early to know how this year compares to 2008. In the evening after traditional work hours, peak turnout is anticipated, and tens of thousands of additional voters could exercise their right to vote. Fulton County elections officials released a statement advising that voters who are in line at 7 pm will be allowed to vote under Georgia law.   Gov. Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama faced off for the second time on Tuesday. The candidates debated in a town meeting format including foreign and domestic policy. The debate was held at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, and was sponsored by the Commission on Presidential Debates. The moderator was CNN Chief Political Correspondent Candy Crowley. You do realize George that the governments role is to protect the country not financially support the citizens, right? If a woman wants to be that active shall we say (to be kind) she should be able to afford her own contraceptives and if not don't participate.
