A grand opening for the facility is planned for November.
In just a matter of weeks, Caterpillar will be moving into its new plant, currently under construction in Bogart. Plant manager Todd Henry told members of the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce on Jan. 24 at the organization's annual meeting that excitement is brewing as March 1 approaches. In 2013, Caterpillar is ramping up hiring for its planned Bogart facility, which is expected to reach 1,400 employees by 2018. With the plant will come about 800 jobs, and that number is expected to grow to 1,400 positions by 2020, according to previous reports. Caterpillar, which announced this month that it will build a major manufacturing plant straddling the Athens-Oconee line, is expecing to break sales and profit records in 2012, according to media reports. The construction machinery manufacturer has made a lot of headlines in recent days for its Georgia announcement, which could bring thousands of related jobs to the area, and to other strategic moves that have affected communities in the United States and around the world.
