DOT Says Crews Close to Finishing Braselton Intersection Improvement Project

Weather permitting, all new lanes at the intersection of Ga. Highways 211 and 124 will be open for use by Friday night.

Construction work on an estimated $5.2 million intersection improvement project in Braselton is winding down.  The Georgia Department of Transportation says that, weather permitting, all new lanes at the intersection of Ga. Highway 211 and Ga. Highway 124 will be open for use by Friday night. On Thursday, crews will start working on getting traffic into the final configuration. "Our contractor plans to have all lanes open by sundown Friday," District Construction Engineer Harold Mull said in a news release. "We are thankful to get these improvements in place. Please be patient and use caution driving through the area as these changes take place over the next 2 days."  There will be daytime lane closures next week to finish up the medians …

Braselton-basd Bank Shut Down by Regulators

A South Carolina bank will take over Hometown Community Bank’s $108.9 million in deposits and essentially all of its $124.6 million in assets.

Hometown Community Bank, which has two locations in Braselton, has been shut down, according to a report by the Atlanta Business Chronicle.  The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and Georgia Department of Banking and Finance shut down the local bank Friday evening, and the report says CertusBank of Easley, S.C., will take over Hometown Community Bank’s $108.9 million in deposits and essentially all of its $124.6 million in assets. The Associated Press reports this brings the number of U.S. bank failures this year to 50, and the failure of Hometown Community Bank is expected to cost the deposit insurance fund $36.7 million. GDOT to Try Again with Braselton Traffic Shift

Traffic using Ga. Highway 211 will be shifted and two new turn lanes will open.

Weather this past week forced the Georgia Department of Transportation to postpone a traffic shift and the opening of two turning lanes in Braselton. The department indicated in a news release Monday that it would try again today, Tuesday, Oct. 23.   The traffic shift is planned to be completed before noon. UPDATED: GDOT Plans to Open Two Lanes at Braselton Intersection Next Week

Traffic using Ga. Highway 211 will be shifted and two new turn lanes will open.

UPDATE: Weather forced the GDOT to postpone this work until next week. Barrow Patch will provide additional updates when they are received.  The Georgia Department of Transportation has planned a traffic shift and the opening of two turning lanes for today, Thursday, Oct. 18, in Braselton. Weather permitting, traffic using Ga. Highway 211 will be shifted to use the new asphalt allowing contractors to remove the original roadway and rebuild that part of the intersection. Once the traffic shift is in place mid-afternoon today, a new left turn lane from 211 east onto Ga. Highway 124 north and a new left turn lane from 211 east onto Interstate 85 northbound will be open for use. “Opening these new left turn lanes will greatly improve traffic …

Mayfield Dairy to Reopen Braselton Visitor Center

The center is set to reopen Friday, Nov. 9, and will begin charging for tours in 2013.

After closing its Visitors Center and Ice Cream Parlor in Braselton almost a year ago, Mayfield Dairy Farms has announced plans to reopen the center.  While tours will be given free of charge through the remainder of the year, beginning in 2013, the center will charge $3 per person, with each guest receiving a free scoop of Mayfield ice cream, according to a news release posted to PR Newswire. Visiting the gift shop and ice cream parlor will still be free. Dean Foods— parent company of the Mayfield Dairy Brand — closed the center in Oct. 31, 2011, despite requests from Braselton town officials that the center remain open. Carter's Distribution Center to Bring Jobs to Braselton

The Gainesville Times reports that by 2015, the company hopes to employ 1,000 people in Braselton, 600 of which will be jobs new to the state.

A distribution center for Carter's Inc., a brand of children's clothing, is expected to bring 600 jobs to the Braselton area, the Gainesville Times reports.  Using an existing 1 million-square-foot facility at 625 Braselton Parkway, Carter's is set to be moved in by June, a move that will immediately create 250 new jobs. By 2015, the company hopes to employ 1,000 people in Braselton, 600 of which will be jobs that are new to the state. The Gainesville Times reports the company will begin its hiring process in early May to fill initial positions in operations, engineering, inventory control, human resources and additional support roles and a job fair is set for May 9 through 12.

Mayfield Dairy Representatives Meet with Braselton Officials about Reopening the Visitors Center

The Barrow Journal reports Mayfield is considering reopening the facility, which it closed just five months ago.

Mayfield Dairy is considering reopening its Braselton visitors center, according to a story by the Barrow Journal.  The newspaper reports the reopening isn't official, but Mayfield Dairy representatives, including Mayfield Dairy Farms President Scottie Mayfield, met with town official recently to discuss the possibility.  The Braselton visitors center closed in October 2011.  Click here to read the Barrow Journal's full story.  Check out previous Barrow Patch stories on Mayfield Dairy.

The Jackson County Brevet — a cycling event benefiting the Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation — begins at 7:30 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church, and the Year One Braselton Bash Car Show benefiting the Hot Rodders Children’s Charity runs from 5 to 9 p.m.  The car show will be hosted at the Year One facility at 1001 Cherry Ave. and is a family-friendly event with fun for all ages, food vendors, a kids' play area and prize drawings.
