Gwinnett County Sheriff's Deputy from Bethlehem Charged with DUI

The deputy is accused of wrecking a sheriff's department vehicle overnight at Ga. Highway 81 and Double Springs Road in Walton County.

Georgia State Patrol reported that a Gwinnett County Sheriff's Deputy vehicle was involved in a wreck at 1:20 a.m. this morning on Georgia Highway 81 at Double Springs Road in Walton County. According to the trooper, a Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department vehicle ran off the road, struck an embankment and overturned several times.  In a press release, GSP reported that nobody was around the vehicle when first responders arrived. They later located the driver, a Gwinnett County Sheriff's deputy, at his Bethlehem residence. He had sustained minor injuries. A female passenger was found walking near the crash scene. The driver, Robert Christopher Matt, 27, was charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, failing …

Is the Bethlehem Area at 316 and 81 the 'New Winder'?

The Barrow Journal reports several new businesses will open in a planned retail center.

There's no doubt the area around the intersection of Ga. highways 316 and 81 is growing and is ripe for even more development.  The Barrow Crossing shopping center is well-established with a Publix supermarket, a Target store and other retailers. Gateway Cinemas 12 attracts movie-goers to the area, and Chick-fil-A is always a popular choice for dining.  But is this area the "new Winder"?  The Barrow Journal reports several businesses will open in a 14,000-square-foot planned retail center — Gateway Station — near the theater, including a sports bar, a pizza place and a music “listening room” offering live performances.  What do you think the growth at the intersection of Ga. highways 316 and 81 in Bethlehem will mean for the Winder area? …
