Winder Remembers

City firefighters, police officers, officials and residents gathered together Sunday morning to remember the public safety personnel who were killed Sept. 11, 2001.

A fire engine siren wailed at 8:46 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, at the Winder fire station.  The siren sounded at the exact time American Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center a decade ago today as Winder firefighters, police officers, city officials and residents gathered to remember the public safety personnel who were killed on 9/11. Winder's September 11th Remembrance Day event followed the timeline of the terrorist attacks as a memorial to the 405 firefighters and police officers who died in the line of duty that day and included a reading of the names of those public safety employees.

The mayor and council will appoint a council member for the task.  2. The authority received word on its budget. Between $25,000 and $26,000 is currently available. That money is expected to be spent in the next 30 days, with $2,800 going toward replacing gutters in downtown and the remainder going toward new awnings.    3. The authority heard a report from Linda Moore, director of the Barrow Economic Development Council. She …
