Georgia One of Five Saddest States Based on Tweets

A report titled "The Geography of Happiness: Connecting Twitter sentiment and expression, demographics, and objective characteristics of place" has placed the Peach State at the bottom of its happiness gauge.

Twitter users in Georgia have possibly given the state a bad rap — a report from the Vermont Complex Systems Center lists the Peach State as one of the five saddest states, according to a post by PC Magazine.   The report charts a "Georgraphy of Happiness" based on more than 10 million tweets from 373 urban areas posted during the 2011 calendar year. To measure sentiment, researchers scored words on a scale from one (sad) to nine (happy).  "The happiest 5 states, in order, are: Hawaii, Maine, Nevada, Utah and Vermont. The saddest 5 states, in order, are: Louisiana, Mississippi, Maryland, Delaware and Georgia," the report reads.  But the study's greatest fault, PC Magazine says, lies in its unbiased approach, as different people talk about …

Twitter's New E-mail Digest — Will You Use It?

The new tool is designed to help readers "discover the best of Twitter."

Are you a Twitter user? Do you find the number of Tweets overwhelming? Is it a struggle to find the information you want? Twitter hopes to help readers sort through all those Tweets with a weekly e-mail digest. According to a post on the Twitter Blog, the e-mailed summary will feature "the most relevant Tweets and stories shared by the people you’re connected to on Twitter." Users can click on links to read articles, send Tweets directly from the e-mail and see related Tweets from people they follow. The e-mail will also feature "the most engaging Tweets seen by the people you follow, even if you don’t follow those who wrote them."  The e-mail digest will roll out over the next few weeks.
