'Tis the season of giving, and firefighters with Barrow County Emergency Services are joining members from the Barrow Emergency Support Team/Community Emergency Response Team in hosting their annual “Empty Stocking” toy drive. “All proceeds from this toy drive will again go to the Holiday Connection store,” Lieutenant Scott Dakin said in a news release. “This means that all donations will stay right here in Barrow County to help those of our neighbors that are in need this Christmas.” The Holiday Connection is a gift store operated by Barrow County Family Connection/Communities in Schools, a collaborative in which various local agencies work together to meet the needs of Barrow County residents. The Barrow County News reports a new venture is seeking donations that will make Christmas a little merrier for local foster children. Fostering Christmas Hope, an effort of husband-and-wife duo Misty and Chris Manus, is asking for donations of gently used and new stuffed animals, candy and small, holiday novelty items for children in foster care in Barrow County. Donation sites include the Barrow County Department of Family and Children Services, Head Games Salon, Hair and Company, Fellowship Baptist Church and Georgia Power, all located in Winder.
