Pets of the Week: Adopt a New Furry Friend from the Nonprofit Pup and Cat Co.

Pup and Cat Co. has been rescuing dogs and cats in and around Barrow for almost 15 years.

Pup and Cat Co. is a nonprofit humane society/foster home organization that has been rescuing dogs and cats for almost 15 years. Pet adoptions are done by appointment or on adoption days, which are held from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. every Saturday at PetSmart in Bethlehem. If you are interested in a particular dog or cat, e-mail Pup and Cat Co. in advance to find out whether the pet you are interested in will be available to see on an upcoming adoption day. Pup and Cat Co. requires a pre-adoption application for each pet. There may be a waiting period while the application is processed and references are checked. Typical adoption fees are $225 per animal, while some pets may have had extensive veterinary care and therefore may have a higher…

Bethlehem Couple Serves as Child Advocates

Branden and Renee Johnson find fulfillment volunteering with the local CASA program.

When one of Branden Johnson's clients suggested that Johnson and his wife, Renee, would be a great fit with Piedmont CASA, they weren't even sure what it was. All they knew was that they had a powerful love for children and were looking to volunteer their time. Now serving as CASA volunteers, or court-appointed special advocates for children, the Johnsons agree the fit is right. CASA volunteers provide a voice for children who have been abused or neglected and are currently in the foster care system. Advocates follow individual cases until they are done, meaning the child is either back with his or her parents, with another family member or in a pre-adoptive home.
