Attendees will receive all the information needed to register in time for summer term classes, which start May 21.
Barrow residents interested in furthering their educations or learing the skills needed to move into a different career are invited to check out Lanier Technical College. Staff, faculty and students will host an open house at the Winder-Barrow campus, where attendees will receive all the information needed to register in time for summer term classes, which begin May 21. The open house will include tours of the campus, and faculty advisors from many of the school's program areas will be available to speak with prospective students. The open house will be held from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 5. Application fees will be waived for those who apply during the open house. Teens and adults who wish to enroll in Lanier Tech’s General Education Development Program in Winder, Statham or Auburn are encouraged to attend the next orientation session Friday, Jan. 27.
In addition to providing a wide variety of academic courses that run the gamut from accounting and business management to solar energy technology and welding, Lanier Technical College also offers an Adult Education Program that features General Education Development and English literacy classes free of charge to students. Before enrolling in GED classes at Lanier Technical College or registering for the GED test itself, participation in an orientation is strongly recommended. Orientations include activities such as taking the diagnostic assessment test, watching a video about the use of the calculator on the GED test and writing a brief essay detailing why the student wishes to obtain a GED. A student at Lanier Technical College's Winder campus is one of the college’s semi-finalists for the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership. Jennifer Whaley, who is in the medical assisting program at the Winder Campus, is one of four Lanier Tech students to be selected. Other semifinalists are Tammy Baker, who is studying cosmetology at the Oakwood Campus, Leisa Stevens, who is studying business administrative technology at the Oakwood campus, and Sue Ferguson, who is studying business administration at the Dawson campus. College President Russell Vandiver said accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges is the “gold standard for academic quality”.
Lanier Technical College, which has a campus in Winder, has received accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. “This is the culmination of a five-year effort by Lanier Technical College,” President Russell Vandiver said in a release announcing the accreditation. “Regional accreditation by a body such as SACS-COC is the gold standard for academic quality.
