Homestead Exemptions Help Homeowners Save
Barrow property owners can get a tax break on their primary residences.
While Georgia law entitles homeowners to a property tax break on their primary residence, only a little more than half of homeowners in Barrow County take advantage of it, said Mary Ann Vaughn, personal property appraiser in the county. The homestead exemption in Barrow County can save residents an average of $200 a year, depending on the determined value of the property, and all qualifying property owners have to do is fill out a form, either in the tax assessor's office or online. To be eligible, the home has to be your primary residence, which means you can't claim a homestead exemption on more than one property, said Sandra Savage, an administrative assistant who handles applications for homestead exemptions for the office. …
