Traffic Accidents Result in 17 Deaths During Holiday Travel Period, Including Fatality in Barrow County
The 102-hour travel period ended at midnight Dec. 25.
A total of 17 traffic deaths, including that of a Buford man driving in Barrow County, were reported in Georgia over the 102-hour holiday travel period, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The travel period began at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, and ended at midnight Tuesday, Dec. 25. Corey Scott Appling, 29, was killed about 7:40 p.m. Dec. 21 when the 1996 Toyota Tacoma he was driving crossed the centerline on Rockwell Church Road, 0.3 miles west of Moons Bridge Road, and collided head-on with a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier. Alcohol is not believed to have been involved, and the victim was not wearing a seatbelt.
