The Thanksgiving turkey has been carved with any leftovers stowed away inside fridges, and the holiday shopping season has officially begun. But according to a recent AAA Consumer Pulse Holiday Shopping survey, more than half of holiday shoppers, 51 percent, have already started buying gifts, compared to 46 percent this time last year. The majority of consumers, 62 percent, plan to spend the same amount of money on presents as last year, while 14 percent plan to spend more money, a 40 percent increase from 2011. More than half of holiday shoppers, 57 percent, plan to spend between $251 and $1,000 on gifts, while one in four, 23 percent, plan to spend up to $250, according to the survey. The Christmas in the City Holiday Market will be open from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in December through Christmas Eve, with local decorators and retailers offering furnishings and antiques, decorative accessories, holiday décor, gifts, toys and garden accessories. Proceeds from market sales will benefit the Barrow Preservation Society and local preservation projects.

A line of shoppers started forming outside of Target at Barrow Crossing before 5 p.m. Thanksgiving Day.
A Westinghouse 46-inch LCD HDTV originally priced at $549.99 and on sale for $298 had shoppers lining up outside Target at Barrow Crossing at 3:30 p.m. Thanksgiving Day. Dacula resident Alex Hicks was the first person in line and was tucked into a sleeping bag he had brought along at about 9:30 p.m., as temperatures dipped into the mid-40s prior to the store’s midnight opening.
