Deal Sworn in as Governor
Ceremony takes place despite severe winter storm.
It’s official. Georgia now has a new governor. The inauguration of Nathan Deal as Georgia’s 82nd governor took place shortly after 2:30 p.m. this afternoon. Though his inaugural address touched on a wide range of issues including crime, transportation and education, Deal's opening remarks focused on the economy. "In times of economic prosperity, we often ignore the cost and inconvenience of governmental paternalism," Deal said. Given the current economic conditions, the state must focus on its core responsibilities, he added. "I was not elected to make easy decisions, but difficult ones," Deal said.
