Rep. Terry England Appointed to National Committee

The state legislator, who represents portions of Barrow County, will serve on the National Conference of State Legislatures Environment Committee.

State Representative Terry England (R-Winder) was recently appointed to serve on the National Conference of State Legislatures' Environment Committee by House Speaker David Ralston.  NCSL is a bipartisan organization that serves legislators and staffs from all 50 states, and the Environment Committee is one of NCSL’s 12 standing committees. According to a news release, these standing committees serve an important role in representing state interests in Washington, D.C., and in facilitating policy innovation among state legislatures. The committees also provide unique forums for the discussion of major issues facing states, which allows legislators to learn from the experiences of other states.   The appointment is for a two-year term …

A Positive Response to Proposed 'Fetal Pain Bill'

When Republican Doug McKillip of the 115th district introduced House Bill 954 last week, an immediate positive response came from those of us who are pro-life advocates. On Thursday, Feb. 9, Rep. McKillip gave his personal testimony as to why he had changed his mind regarding the issue of life. Online Athens reported that McKillip stated, “I became a Christian in '09, you start reading the Bible and you realize life begins at conception.” I was present a few weeks ago, when, along with others, I heard Rep. McKillip give a speech where he shared the change that had taken place in his life and thinking after he became a Christian and started reading the Bible.
