Man Asked to Provide Breath Sample: 'What's the Use I'm Already Arrested'

The Athens resident is facing several charges following a traffic stop along Ga. Highway 316.

A driver arrested April 21 accused deputies of "picking on him" because of his race and repeatedly suggested they should be arresting the "real criminals like the people who kill people," according to an incident report.  Law enforcement with the Barrow County Sheriff's Office stopped the Athens man for reportedly driving erratically along Ga. Highway 316. When a deputy smelled alcohol, the driver was asked to step out of his vehicle, at which time he refused to perform a field sobriety test and would not provide a breath sample.  His reason? "What’s the use I'm already arrested," the report reads. Suspect Tells Deputy He's OK to Drive after Reportedly Striking Mailbox, Survey Marker, Then Tree

A second suspect, a female driving a separate vehicle, was also arrested along with the male driver.

On Feb. 2, 2013, a deputy with the Barrow County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of Tanners Bridge Road and Tanners Bridge Circle in reference to an accident with injuries.  Upon arrival, the deputy found an SUV against a tree, the driver, having exited the vehicle, was walking around. Approaching the man, the deputy reported smelling an odor of an alcoholic beverage and asked for a driver's license. The driver reportedly fumbled around for the license and the deputy noticed his eyes were watery and bloodshot, his speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet.  "I asked him how much he had to drink and he stated that he only had a couple of drinks at a friends. Man Asks Deputy to Check for Active Warrant after Reportedly Driving to Sheriff's Office Intoxicated

Central communications confirmed an active warrant for failure to appear on traffic charges before the man was placed under arrest and charged with DUI.

A Winder man who drove to the Barrow County Sheriff's Office on Jan. 1, 2013, to find out if there was an active warrant for his arrest was charged with DUI after a deputy smelled alcohol on his breath.  According to an incident report, 29-year-old Adam Mark Zornig met with a deputy to find out if there was a warrant for his arrest out of Athens-Clarke County. When the deputy had central communications run the man's information, his license returned as suspended and central communications confirmed an active warrant for failure to appear on traffic charges.  When the deputy returned to speak with the individual, the deputy detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his person and breath. Gwinnett County Sheriff's Deputy from Bethlehem Charged with DUI

The deputy is accused of wrecking a sheriff's department vehicle overnight at Ga. Highway 81 and Double Springs Road in Walton County.

Georgia State Patrol reported that a Gwinnett County Sheriff's Deputy vehicle was involved in a wreck at 1:20 a.m. this morning on Georgia Highway 81 at Double Springs Road in Walton County. According to the trooper, a Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department vehicle ran off the road, struck an embankment and overturned several times.  In a press release, GSP reported that nobody was around the vehicle when first responders arrived. They later located the driver, a Gwinnett County Sheriff's deputy, at his Bethlehem residence. He had sustained minor injuries. A female passenger was found walking near the crash scene. The driver, Robert Christopher Matt, 27, was charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, failing …

I'm confused, is Eugene the guy in the picture? Because that is not the officer who was arrested. At first, I thought the guy in the above picture was the officer that was arrested, but it isn't because the news station has a mugshot of the officer arrested.   more ›
