Admission, a drink, popcorn and a special kid-friendly snack are just $4, and movies start at 10 a.m. every Thursday beginning June 6. Brutal slapstick, silly jokes and a weak plot make “The Three Stooges” less fun than it could be.

My husband says enjoyment of slapstick is a sign of early childhood head trauma. I don’t know where he got that, but that’s what he says every time I laugh at some Three Stooges-type scene. The Bethlehem theater complex leased by Carmike Cinemas has been sold for $8 million. The website RetailTrafficMag.com reports RealtyLink LLC negotiated the sale of the 45,200-square-foot, 12-screen complex, home to Barrow County's Gateway Cinemas 12. Carmike Cinemas signed a 20-year, triple-net lease for the space in January 2012. "This does not affect our lease or the operation of the Carmike Gateway 12," Terrell Mayton, director of marketing for Carmike, said in an e-mail to Barrow Patch.

The date is officially set — Barrow County's latest attraction, Carmike Cinemas' Gateway Cinemas 12, will open Thursday, Jan. 12. The entertainment complex off Ga. Highway 316 in Bethlehem will welcome movie-goers at 7 p.m. Jan. 12 with a special gala charity grand opening. Terrell Mayton, director of marketing for the company, confirmed the date and said a press release would be issued prior to the opening. The theater, which was originally expected to open this past fall, will be outfitted with Carmike’s BigD Experience — a special screen will give viewers a brighter 3D experience as they enjoy supple leather seats and additional upgrades in sound and overall visual experience.
