Residents Report Thefts, Harassing Phone Calls and Damaged Mailbox

The following information was taken from incident reports from the Barrow County Sheriff's Office.

The following are summaries of recent incidents or calls for assistance to which Barrow County Sheriff's Office deputies responded. A Pinecrest Road resident reported Feb. 2, 2013, that she had been to the store and when she returned home, she noticed the back door to her residence had been damaged. A deputy observed two large dents in the metal door. The resident said she had noticed strange events happening in the area and asked for extra patrols. A deputy responding to a Ventura Way residence Feb. 2, 2013, in reference to a verbal dispute overheard an occupant inside state, “I am going to stab someone up in here.” When asked about the statement, the man, as well as several other individuals inside the resident, said he was talking about…

Sheriff's Office Deputies Respond to Dispute Over Horses and Dogs, Report of Child Kicked by Cow and Alleged Puppy Scam

The following are summaries of recent incidents or calls for assistance to which Barrow County Sheriff's Office deputies responded. Tenant threatens to burn rental home fixtures, ceiling fans On Jan. 8, a deputy met with an employee of a realty company who said his attempts to get one of the company’s tenants to pay January’s rent had been unsuccessful. According to an incident report, the complainant told the deputy the tenant had left a voicemail on his phone saying, “I will burn the [expletive deleted] down if you want me to.” When the deputy later spoke to the tenant, the man said he had left a voicemail and was angry but had only threatened to burn the ceiling fans and fixtures inside the home. Winder Man Charged with DUI Tells Officer Alcohol Smell is Hand Sanitizer

That alcohol smell is hand sanitizer A man who was involved in a traffic accident Jan. 7 told an officer the smell of alcohol coming from his person was hand sanitizer. After struggling with field sobriety evaluations, James Victor Power, 21, of 307 Harrison Lane in Winder, was arrested and charged with DUI and improper backing. At the Barrow County Detention Center, the suspect’s first breath test registered a .138 blood alcohol content and the second registered a .139. The following are summaries of recent incidents or calls for assistance to which Barrow County Sheriff's Office deputies responded. Driving carefully with no license On Jan. 1, 2013, a man who was traveling 43 mph in a 65 mph zone on Ga. Highway 316 told a deputy he was driving slowly because his friend told him to drive carefully because he didn’t have a license. Jimmy Bonilla-Alvarado, 30, of Norwalk, Conn., was arrested and charged with driving without a license and window tint violation. Resident says satellite TV rep damaged yard A Nunnally Road resident reported Jan. 2, 2013, that a satellite TV representative had damaged his property. Customer Walks Out of Store Without Paying for Chainsaw

The following information was taken from incident reports completed by the Barrow County Sheriff's Office. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A man walked out of Tractor Supply in Winder carrying a chainsaw he had not paid for, according to a Barrow County Sheriff's Office incident report.  An employee said she was standing at a register Oct. 19, when a male customer approached her holding a chainsaw and asked what it would cost, including tax. After she informed him of the price, she told the man she would check the back of the store for the item in a box. When she returned to the register, the customer was no longer there.  Upon reviewing surveillance video, the employee said she watched the man leave the store with the chainsaw, having never paid for the item. When the responding deputy watched the video, the man was observed waiting at the front of the store for a short time…
