A store under construction adjacent to PetSmart at Barrow Crossing in Bethlehem could be complete as early as February. Crews are scheduled to bore slab Monday, Dec. 3, for the Michaels craft store, Luis Suarez, building inspector for the Barrow County Planning Department, told Barrow Patch, and the anticipated construction completion date could come as early as February. The store is located in the growing Barrow Crossing shopping center off Ga. Highway 316. The development, which is anchored by a Publix, a Target store and a Belk, has welcomed a Kirkland's, a T.J.Maxx and a Shane's Rib Shack in the past year. A ribbon cutting is planned for 8:45 a.m. and customers are invited to sample ALDI exclusive brand products, tour the store and shop for their favorite grocery items.
Plans to open the Winder ALDI store before Thanksgiving have come to fruition — the store is set to open Thursday, Nov. 1, well before the Nov. 22 holiday. “We are pleased to bring a store to Winder to help customers get high-quality products at everyday low prices,” Thom Behtz, Jefferson division vice president for ALDI, said in a news release announcing the grand opening. “We challenge shoppers to switch from national brands to our high-quality exclusive brands and save up to 50 percent without compromising. An online report posted by the Barrow Journal calls a company seeking the annexation and rezoming of property into the city of Statham "controversial." According to the Barrow Journal, Walton International is a Canadian-based land investment company that purchases raw, undeveloped land and resells it in small “units” to mostly Asian investors. A deal to bring a Longhorn Steakhouse to Barrow County is in the works but the company hasn't closed on the land purchase, Wayne Bartlett with Maynard and Bartlett Realty Group wrote in an e-mail to Barrow Patch. Longhorn Steakhouses are one of several brands under the Darden family of restaurants, which includes Red Lobster, Olive Garden and Bahama Breeze. Wayne Bartlett with Maynard and Bartlett Realty Group of Winder has confirmed a Varsity restaurant will be built at Gateway Station off Ga. Highway 316 in Bethlehem. "They will be located in front of the theatre," Bartlett wrote in an e-mail response to Barrow Patch. "We're very excited about The Varsity coming to our project! Add ribs and barbecue to the latest options for eating out in Bethlehem. A sign posted on the door of the new Shane's Rib Shack location at Barrow Crossing heralded today's opening. According to the restaurant's website, hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. While the city of Winder is executing a plan to extend its city limits to Ga. Highway 316 through annexation, the Bethlehem Town Council discussed the same topic during a recent meeting, the Barrow County News reports. Mayor Sandy McNab brought up the possibility of hiring a consultant to assist the town with talking to property owners about annexing into the town's limits. Click here to read the full story.
