Michaels Craft Store at Barrow Crossing Could be Complete as Early as February

The store will join Publix, Target, Belk and other retailers and businesses in the growing shopping center of Ga. Highway 316.

A store under construction adjacent to PetSmart at Barrow Crossing in Bethlehem could be complete as early as February.  Crews are scheduled to bore slab Monday, Dec. 3, for the Michaels craft store, Luis Suarez, building inspector for the Barrow County Planning Department, told Barrow Patch, and the anticipated construction completion date could come as early as February.  The store is located in the growing Barrow Crossing shopping center off Ga. Highway 316. Winder ALDI Store to Open Nov. 1

A ribbon cutting is planned for 8:45 a.m. and customers are invited to sample ALDI exclusive brand products, tour the store and shop for their favorite grocery items.

Plans to open the Winder ALDI store before Thanksgiving have come to fruition — the store is set to open Thursday, Nov. 1, well before the Nov. 22 holiday.  “We are pleased to bring a store to Winder to help customers get high-quality products at everyday low prices,” Thom Behtz, Jefferson division vice president for ALDI, said in a news release announcing the grand opening. “We challenge shoppers to switch from national brands to our high-quality exclusive brands and save up to 50 percent without compromising. As important as price is, the only way to attract and keep shoppers is to have quality products.” A ribbon cutting is planned for 8:45 a.m. and customers are invited to sample ALDI exclusive brand products, tour the store and shop …

Local Newspaper Calls Firm Seeking Statham Annexation and Rezoning 'Controversial'

Read a news release submitted by Walton Development & Management to Barrow Patch.

An online report posted by the Barrow Journal calls a company seeking the annexation and rezoming of property into the city of Statham "controversial."  According to the Barrow Journal, Walton International is a Canadian-based land investment company that purchases raw, undeveloped land and resells it in small “units” to mostly Asian investors.  Click here to read the newspaper's full online report.  Walton Development & Management submitted the following news release to Barrow Patch, which is posted in its entirety.  Walton Development and Management (WDM) submitted the 360-acre One University Parkway (One University) project to the City of Statham, GA for Annexation and Rezoning. Longhorn Restaurant in Works for Gateway Station

The company hasn't yet closed on the land purchase, but a deal is in the works.

A deal to bring a Longhorn Steakhouse to Barrow County is in the works but the company hasn't closed on the land purchase, Wayne Bartlett with Maynard and Bartlett Realty Group wrote in an e-mail to Barrow Patch. Longhorn Steakhouses are one of several brands under the Darden family of restaurants, which includes Red Lobster, Olive Garden and Bahama Breeze.  If the restaurant opens, it will be part of Gateway Station off Ga. Highway 316, a planned 14,000-square-foot development. Bartlett confirmed Monday a Varsity restaurant will be built at the site. I would love to see a Steak and Shake... Something that is open 24 hours other than Waffle House! A Kroger or Whole Foods would be GREAT! A yogurt place, and some small town, locally owned places would be nice too, but I don't know that it will happen.   more ›

Varsity Restaurant Coming to Gateway Station

The planned 14,000-square-foot Gateway Station development is set to include a a "Varsity Junior."

The location will be a "Varsity Junior" and similar in size to Chick-fil-A.

Wayne Bartlett with Maynard and Bartlett Realty Group of Winder has confirmed a Varsity restaurant will be built at Gateway Station off Ga. Highway 316 in Bethlehem.  "They will be located in front of the theatre," Bartlett wrote in an e-mail response to Barrow Patch. "We're very excited about The Varsity coming to our project! We're hoping they'll be open by the spring of next year."  Bartlett said the location will be a "Varsity Junior" and similar in size to Chick-fil-A. A foundation is taking shape near Gateway Cinemas 12 off Ga. Shane's Rib Shack Opening at Barrow Crossing in Bethlehem

Will you be heading out to the new Barrow County location this week?

Add ribs and barbecue to the latest options for eating out in Bethlehem.  A sign posted on the door of the new Shane's Rib Shack location at Barrow Crossing heralded today's opening. According to the restaurant's website, hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.  The Bethlehem location scored a 100 on a recent health inspection. Check out the restaurant's menu.  You might also be interested in reading:  What's your favorite place to eat in the Bethlehem area? Bethlehem Council Discusses Annexation

The Barrow County News reports the town council is considering looking into annexing properties into the town limits.

While the city of Winder is executing a plan to extend its city limits to Ga. Highway 316 through annexation, the Bethlehem Town Council discussed the same topic during a recent meeting, the Barrow County News reports.  Mayor Sandy McNab brought up the possibility of hiring a consultant to assist the town with talking to property owners about annexing into the town's limits. Site Work Moving Forward at Gateway Station
