Two suspects are facing charges in connections with a May 3 armed robbery outside a Winder convenience store. The Athens Banner-Herald reports Darren Michael Lamiotte, 20, and Kartez Jamal Fowler, 24, both of Athens, reportedly confronted two men leaving the Phillips 66 service station on North Broad Street and demanded money at gunpoint. The duo stole off with $1,500 and a cellphone, the report says. The Winder Police Department publicly released Lamiotte’s identity and photograph May 9, and he surrendered that night. Authorities are still searching for Fowler. Both suspects are facing charges of armed robbery and aggravated assault. Police say a Statham resident was paid nearly $28,000 by the victim over the course of less than a year for landscaping services that weren't performed.
Watkinsville police, with assistance from the Barrow County Sheriff's Office, arrested a Statham man on Monday who allegedly bilked $28,000 out of a 90-year-old military veteran from Watkinsville in less than a year under the guise of providing landscaping services. Police Chief Lee O'Dillon said the Western Judicial Circuit's District Attorney's Office helped with the investigation, which was launched in early April after the victim's family members examined his bank account records. The victim had written 38 checks to Paul Kevin Harris, ranging in amounts of $25 to $1,200 each, he explained. The lawn work was never performed, O'Dillon said, but Harris kept returning to the elderly man demanding more money. The victim told police he was …

Bond for a 17-year-old Winder resident accused of molesting a 7-year-old child earlier this year was reduced Thursday during a hearing in Barrow County Superior Court, the Athens Banner-Herald reports. The news outlet reports the reason for the bond reduction, from $50,000 to $20,000, was not clear. Clack is charged with aggravated sodomy, child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes. Click here to read the full story. A driver arrested April 21 accused deputies of "picking on him" because of his race and repeatedly suggested they should be arresting the "real criminals like the people who kill people," according to an incident report. Law enforcement with the Barrow County Sheriff's Office stopped the Athens man for reportedly driving erratically along Ga. Highway 316. When a deputy smelled alcohol, the driver was asked to step out of his vehicle, at which time he refused to perform a field sobriety test and would not provide a breath sample. His reason? "What’s the use I'm already arrested," the report reads. The driver also reportedly asked deputies if he could "pee in the back seat and was advised if he did he would wash it out." Raymond Thomas …
