Barrow Regional Medical Center in Winder will host "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," an event featuring The Villas Singers, from 12:30 to 1 p.m. today in the hospital's main atrium. Santa and one of his elves will make an appearance for pictures — please bring your own camera — by the hospital's tree immediately following the musical performance. Registration for a screening is required.
Free prostate cancer screenings will be offered Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Barrow Regional Medical Center. Screenings include a PSA blood draw for which no fasting is required and a digital rectal exam and will be offered from 5 to 7 p.m. by Dr. Catherine Schwender of Athena Urology. Registration for a screening is required and can be completed by calling Srav Meka with the hospital's marketing department at 770-307-5383.

Are you a caregiver for someone with Alzheimer’s disease? The Athens Community Council on Aging will host a luncheon and support group meeting for those in the Barrow community caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease or other related dementias at noon Tuesday, Sept. 27. The scheduled guest speaker for this luncheon is Dr. Rasha G. Al Samara, who specializes in geriatric medicine. The luncheon will be on the third floor conference room at Barrow Regional Medical Center and will provide an opportunity for caregivers to fellowship with other caregivers, participate in educational programs, have questions answered about a loved one’s care and gain knowledge from health care professionals.
