The Barrow County News reports Barrow County Board of Commissioners member Steve Worley is under investigation. Worley was terminated as public works director for the city of Monroe in January, and the newspaper reports the federal investigation stems from information uncovered during an internal review of that termination. The Barrow Journal reports Monroe officials were concluding the internal investigation last week when they received an unexpected inquiry from the FBI’s Atlanta office. The Barrow County News earlier reported Worley's separation papers cited "violation of personnel policies and procedures." Come Dec. 11, members of the Barrow County Board of Commissioners are set to vote on the appointment of that manager, who will take on oversight of the county government Jan. 1. The Barrow Journal reports the top candidate for the job is Jock Connell, a former county administrator for Gwinnett County who served as interim administrator for Hall County. The Barrow Journal reports Danny Yearwood, chairman of the Barrow County Board of Commissioners, may seek re-election in 2012, despite changes in the position. The chairman, who currently manages the county government, will shift to a part-time position with a reduction in pay as a county manager begins overseeing day-to-day county government operations. The chair will have full voting powers alongside commissioners but will not retain a veto. The changeover will take place in January 2013. Barrow voters decided this past November to shift day-to-day management of the county government from the commission chairman to a full-time manager. An 8-ton bulldozer disappeared from a county job site recently, and Barrow County officials are asking for the public's help to find the missing machinery. The Barrow Journal reports county employees believed the rented John Deere Model 450 Dozer had been picked up by United Rentals in Bogart. However, when the rental company dispatched a truck to retrieve the equipment, it was missing. The alleged theft is believed to have occurred sometime between 4:30 p.m. Dec. 12 and 8:30 a.m. Dec. 13. The Journal reports the bulldozer was operated with a universal John Deere key and was parked about 100 feet off Ga. Highway 81.
