A local venue is soliciting talent for an upcoming open mic night. 106 West Music School, Supplies and Performing Arts Venue in Winder invites musicians, poets, comedians and actors to take the venue's stage beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, to perform up to two original, acoustic songs or seven minutes of original work. This Saturday, July 21, 106 West in Winder will host a special comedy showcase and proceeds will benefit a Dacula resident undergoing treatment for cancer. The event is for those 18 and older. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show will begin at 8. Admission is limited to 200 people, so get tickets in advance by calling 106 West at 770-868-1977 or arrive early on Saturday to purchase tickets at the door. Tickets are $20, cash only. "We're encouraging people to come out, be ready to laugh and bring a few extra dollars too ... for the food and raffles," organizer Shannon Mingione said in a post announcing the event.
