911 Caller Reports Naked Woman Armed With Knife Running in Backyard

Woman was reportedly running naked in an area where children at a playground could easily see her.

A Winder woman, who reportedly told police she hated the father of her unborn child and would call 911 whenever she saw him, ended up being the object of a 911 call herself after allegedly running naked through her backyard with a knife. Winder Police were called to a Capital Avenue address on May 8 after a 911 caller reported seeing Jessica Nichole Daniel, 27, outside in a state of undress. Daniel, according to a witness, was unclothed in an area visible to children on a nearby playground. Upon arrival, the officer heard a female yelling "very loudly" from the back of the residence. The officer spotted the woman putting on a shirt as she ran through the house toward the front of the residence. The officer instructed the woman to put her …

Golf Cart Wiring Sparks Fire at Barrow County Home

The blaze caused heavy damage to the garage and resulted in smoke damage throughout the home.

Golf cart wiring is being blamed for a May 11 fire that caused extensive damage in the garage area of a home in the 900 block of Highway 211. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy fire conditions in the garage of the home. “They also found fire in a bedroom on the second floor of the home," stated Barrow County and Emergency Services Public Information Officer Lt. Scott Dakin in a press release. "Firefighters made a very fast aggressive attack on the fire and were able to quickly bring it under control.”  There was smoke damage throughout the home, Dakin added. Firefighters remained at the scene for several hours to remove smoke from the home and check for any extension of the fire. You might also be interested in reading:

Sheriff's Command Staff Receive Advanced Training

The Governor's Office of Highway Safety partnered with the Georgia Sheriffs' Association to provide advanced and specialized training.

A grant from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety recently provided the Barrow County Sheriff's Office command staff an opportunity to take part in three days of intensive training in Macon, Ga. at the Georgia Sheriffs' Association 2013 Command Staff Training Conference.  Colonel Jimmy Lomax, Major Todd Druse and Major Mike Hamm attended the training, which emphasized highway safety and leadership. “The Command Staff Training Conference is a tremendous opportunity for upper level command leadership within sheriffs' offices to attain specialized training on highway safety, leadership development, and current trends inGeorgia, as well as fostering partnerships statewide,” stated Tonia Welch, Training Director of the Georgia Sheriffs' …

Woman Reportedly Threatens to Blow up Car, Says She Held Gun to Her Head to Make Husband Love Her

The 23-year-old Statham woman also had 12 outstanding warrants.

A dispute over a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am reportedly led to threats and the eventual arrest of a 23-year-old Statham woman on a slew of charges. A Barrow County Sheriff's deputy was dispatched to a Thurmond Circle address on May 6 after a Statham woman accused Erin Patrice Thomas, 23, also of Statham, of threatening to blow up the Grand Am. According to the arrest report, Thomas reportedly felt she should have the car due to an earlier agreement, but the Statham woman did not want to release the vehicle without first receiving payment. The two women argued and Thomas left on foot. The Statham woman later went looking for Thomas and found her walking near Thurmond Circle. Barrow County Paramedic Has More Than 21 Years of Experience Serving Residents

Barrow County Emergency Services is spotlighting its exceptional employees leading up to National EMS Week later this month.

Robert Solomon joined the team of emergency services personnel in Barrow County in 2011 — he became a paramedic in 1992 following the death of a parent.  “I was always intrigued by what paramedics do,” Solomon said. “Then my father passed away in front of me and I did not know what to do. I knew then I wanted to learn to help people.” Barrow County Emergency Services is spotlighting exceptional employees leading up to National EMS Week later this month, and Solomon is one of those team members.     “With over 21 years’ experience as a paramedic, he brings a lot of knowledge and dedication to our team," Chief Dennis Merrifield said in a news release.  “After all these years I still enjoy helping people that are sick or injured,” Solomon …

Winder Man Charged with Theft of Catalytic Converters in Two Counties

The suspect reportedly confessed to the crimes.

A Winder man is facing charges related to the theft of catalytic converters in Oconee and Jackson counties.  The Athens Banner-Herald reports Christopher Leon Pope, 38, was arrested in April in Jackson County and charged with 12 counts of felony theft. He is also facing an arson charge after one vehicle caught fire during an attempt to steal gasoline.   Click here to read the full story.

Woman Mistakes Deputy for Burglar, Grabs Shotgun

Deputy was wearing camouflage pants and a red shirt when he arrived at the home in response to a call from another resident.

A lack of communication between a woman and her daughter-in-law led to an armed encounter with Barrow County Sheriff's deputies at a Bethlehem home on May 1. The woman, who thought she was home alone, heard someone upstairs and called authorities to report a burglary in progress. The first deputy to arrive at the scene was in plain clothes, wearing a red shirt and camouflage pants with his badge displayed on his belt. That information was relayed to the woman, who stayed on the line with 911 until a uniformed deputy arrived at the Saddle Ridge Drive home. The woman told the uniformed deputy everyone had left the house earlier that morning. The woman said she called 911 after hearing someone moving around upstairs, opening and closing doors…
