You can carry in Government buildings now, oddly enough, they exempted the Capitol building whereRead More they themselves work. *Firearms dealers no longer need to maintain records of sales and purchases. * The governor loses his authority to suspend or limit the carrying or sale of guns. (and he signed the bill, who's in his pocket?) * Before, cities could not regulate “gun shows and dealers through zoning or by ordinance, Now, that applies not to just guns but to all weapons. * The fingerprinting requirement for licenses is now removed. * No one is allowed to maintain a database of information on license holders that spans multiple jurisdictions. *This bill provides that a person will be immune from prosecution in using deadly force in self-defense or defense of others or property EVEN if the person utilizes a weapon in violation of [the Georgia Firearms and Weapons Act What could possibly go wrong..
JB April 23, 2014 at 04:38 pm
You forgot to mention guns in schools full of inquisitive children and teens. One teacher actuallyRead More said today, 'Mine will be in my purse in my desk drawer if I need it.' How long before one of those well mannered teenagers figures THAT out? As @Chas Holman said, what could possibly go wrong.
Michael Hipp April 23, 2014 at 04:38 pm
Aside and apart from all the other things that Chas mentions above, and good grief those are badRead More enough already ~ can anybody change my mind on the point that allowing people to have guns in a bar, where alcohol is being served, is anything other than a horrible idea?

Anyone who invades another person's home takes all the risk. If the intruders are killed, maimed,Read More etc. then it's their own fault. Had the home owner not killed them, lilkely the parent's of these kids would have sued him and he would have to defend himself in court and maybe even serve jail time. America has it backwards.
Carrie April 23, 2014 at 04:44 pm
I feel that if someone breaks into a person's home the owner should have the right to defendRead More themselves. I may not act in a way that some think was necessary, but I would be scared to death and I would want that person to not be able to get up and kill me after I tried to stop them.
Audrey Kelly April 23, 2014 at 04:50 pm
I would normally agree that if someone breaks into your home you have the right to defend yourselfRead More and if the intruder dies that's unfortunate. In this case though it sounds like after shooting and they were down, he could have left the house and called the police but instead he shot one of them in the face and waited a day before calling police. Did he stay in the house with the dead bodies overnight? Hmmm.

$6 Bil Vanishes From State Dept. Under Hillary Clinton APRIL 07, 2014 In a mind-boggling example ofRead More how the government blows—or perhaps steals—our tax dollars, billions vanished from the U.S. State Department mostly while Hillary Clinton ran it, according to a new alert issued by the agency’s inspector general. Could the former Secretary of State be using the cash to fund an upcoming presidential campaign? In all, $6 billion are missing and it’s highly unlikely any of the money will ever be recovered. The cash was supposed to be used to pay contractors but it just disappeared and documents that could help track the dough cannot be located. How convenient! The paper trail, which federal law says must be maintained in the case of government contracts, has been destroyed or was never created to begin with.
B. Dub April 23, 2014 at 03:50 pm
One positive thing? Um... she never became President?
Simon April 23, 2014 at 04:06 pm
AN ANALYSIS  WORTH READING: by Dick Morris, former political advisor to President Bill ClintonRead More beware as I was there for most of their presidency and know them better than just about anyone, I offer a few corrections; The facts are: Hillary's main extra-curricular activity in law school was helping the Black Panthers, on trial in Connecticut for torturing and killing a federal agent. The facts are:  Hillary interned with Bob Truehaft, the head of the California Communist Party. The facts are:   She flunked the DC bar exam, yes, flunked,  it is a matter of record, and only passed the Arkansas bar. The facts are:  Her main board activity, was to sit on the Wal-Mart board of directors, for a substantial fee. She was silent about their labor and health care practices. The facts are: Her visits abroad were entirely touristic and symbolic and there was no substantive diplomacy on any of them. One cannot think of a single bill Hillary has introduced or a single comment she has made that would tend to strengthen our country in the War on Terror. Think  about it - he's (Dick Morris) said all of this openly, thus if he were not truthful he'd be liable for defamation of  character! And you better believe Hilary would sue him.

Cops got a chance to play with their toys. Relax people. It's not like you had to respondRead More personally. Stop saying it's a waste of money. Then money is absolutely minimal. These guys were not called away from their golf games. I would also like to compliment the responders for not accidentally killing someone. It showed professionalism and did not add to the "trend" of killing "innocent" people; which is becoming an issues to watch. The people incensed over this should focus their anger on plastic shopping bags as many others are doing over at another great Patch piece. Evil lurks at the checkout counters across America!

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld Michigan's ban on affirmative action in college admissions.
"The Black Panther of Poetry" April 23, 2014 at 04:20 pm
The goal of Affirmative was to right an over two hundred years wrong. To bring balance to theRead More playing field, to give a race who has yet to receive REPARATION like Jews, American Indians, Japanese, and who was literally handicapped in this RACE, this HUMAN RACE from the "git-go". Like I first said, FAIR IS FAIR!!! So while we are getting rid of Affirmative Action(Racist Old Man, sorry(grumpy old man), lets get rid of all AFFIRMATIVE ACTION!!! And when I turn on my T.V., I see that sports and the music industry is a good place to start, among many others!!!! PEACE OUT!!!

Chris. Which ten commandments are you talking about? The ones in exodus 20 that tell you to notRead More covet your neighbor's ass.... which by the way what capitalism is... and America is a capitalist country to the extreme, or is it the set of ten commandments in Exodus that tell you that you should offer the first offspring of every womb that belongs to you? How do we follow that commandment in America, exactly? NEW PARAGRAPH On your piddly little points about not being able to vote on the constitutional rights of your fellow statesmen and stateswomen - exactly when did I get to vote on you right to get married? Or, if you prefer, why do you think you get to vote (as an average citizen) on my constitutionally guaranteed rights? NEW PARAGRAPH On the absurd point that a jurist (yes, judges are jurists) should recuse himself on an issue before the court that involves gay people. By that logic, a straight jurist should recuse them self over any matter before the court that involves heterosexuality. If you do that, good sir, who is going to be left to be a jurist? No, in our system of law, the jurist is expected to be impartial - your idea is a terrible one.

Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.
Matt Miller April 23, 2014 at 03:05 pm
Comments like "back when I was in school" are completely laughable. I don't brag aboutRead More beating my kid in a foot race because I'm faster then he is. So why should me being able to solve a math problem faster then him mean that the new way doesn't work? I've been using math for decades and he'll be just beginning to learn it. Of course I'm going to know the answer before him. Also, what's wrong with setting higher standards for our kids? When I was in school my "reading and basic learning level" was always a grade or two above my actual grade level. It's easier for them to learn new things when they are younger then it is when they're older.
Gary Tobin April 23, 2014 at 04:37 pm
Matt Miller - the key statement you made was, "It's easier for them to learn new things whenRead More they are younger then it is when they're older". If CCSS was an adaptable standard by local school districts, with no copy write or restrictions on adapting the standards to the local school district's needs and there were NO strings attached to them. You have very good points. My parents learned math on a slide ruler, are slide rulers bad, no, they have and had their place. There is so much evidences and facts the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND CORPORATE AMERICA are the authors and fuel for the CCSS. When supporters of CCSS do not see these facts their motives and actions toward pushing and supporting CCSS are seriously in question.
Gary Tobin April 23, 2014 at 04:47 pm
National Governor’s Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers are private,Read More no-profit organizations. They are NOT government agencies. Therefore the STATES DO NOT OWN THE RIGHTS TO CCSS.

FOR THOSE WHO LIKE AMAZON PRIME OVER NETFLIX: Here's an interesting article from today (23 Apr 2014)Read More about how Amazon Prime just got HBO to stream at least some of its older content, plus "HBO GO," to Amazon's new Fire TV box, thereby making NetFlix upset because NetFlix (nor any other streaming service, including HULU) has never been able to get any HBO content; and so Amazon has scored a real coup! I agree with B. Dub 100%! How was this kid able to scale a fence and just walk right over to theRead More plane? TSA: for all the harassing you do in the terminal...you ain't all that!! As far as the kid being a runaway..maybe he does face some serious abuse issues at home. He's damn lucky to be alive. But, I raised three boys, and a 16 year old boy can runaway for any collage of reasons. My kids never ran away but, I'm wondering if the fact that the plane was going to HAWAII has anything to do with it. It sounds a little compulsive to me. CPA need good follow up on this. I'm so sick of bleeding hearts thinking that prison is good enough for these psychos! I just do notRead More understand the mentality that if we, as a society, condone the death penalty that we are somehow barbaric, sick or vengeful. What is wrong with you??? Do you really think it makes us a better society for continuing to support people like this killer for the rest of their lives? Do you understand how much money that costs our country EVERY DAY? I understand that perhaps you feel that there are some innocent people sitting in prison right now and, for those few, we need to be cautious in exacting final justice. However, this psycho admitted that he did it...described it in detail...he is guilty...there is no doubt about that. Furthermore, there is NO...let me repeat that...NO help for him. There is no amount of rehabilitation, no drug, no shock therapy, no surgery, no magic drink...NOTHING...that will help him or change him. I have worked in a correctional setting for many years...with some of the worst criminals in history...(who, by the way, have since been executed)...I have seen them on a daily basis, talked to them, listened to them, watched their daily actions. Trust me when I tell you, there is NOTHING that will change them and I have not lost one second of sleep over their executions...in fact, the opposite is true...I sleep better knowing they are GONE...gone permanently...not just 'put away' for a while. I understand that you think you are being compassionate...you are not. It is a service to society, in soooo many ways, to be rid of them. THEY are the true animals...let me take that back...they aren't even animals...I have two dogs...they have never hurt anyone...I value their lives more than any one of these sick individuals. I can't call them people, I can't call them animals...both are above what they are. There really is no name for it...but I will assure you...they have NO place in society...even in an incarcerated society. Judge me if you will...call me harsh if you must...my opinion comes from seeing and knowing...and you can take my statements how ever you wish...but I know what I know...and you can take that to the bank.
