Call for Contestants: Vocalists Invited to Compete for Auburn Idol 2012

The city preps for a singing competition as part of its Independence Day Celebration.

With Fourth of July just around the corner, all eyes will be turned to the stars as fireworks light up the night sky.

In Auburn, attendees of the city’s two-day Independence Day Celebration will turn their eyes to the event stage for a chance to see a few future stars hanging out a little closer to the ground.

On Saturday, June 30, and Sunday, July 1, local contenders will compete in a singing contest in hopes of being crowned Auburn Idol 2012, with an opportunity to win a cash prize and sing at the fireworks presentation at the end of the festival. Participants must be 14 years of age or older, and the deadline to register is Friday, June 22. Registrations can be submitted via e-mail to AuburnIdol2012@yahoo.com. E-mail submissions must include the following:

  • Performer’s name
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • E-mail address
  • Link to YouTube audition video. Videos should not exceed five minutes and may include the performer singing either a capella, with an instrumental CD that contains no other vocals or with either guitar or electronic keyboard accompaniment.

The entry fee for Auburn Idol is $20 per person, and the amount of the cash prize will be determined by the number of entries. Professional singers are not permitted to compete. For a complete list of rules, please click here. Semi-finalists must be able to perform at the Independence Day Festival on Saturday, June 30, beginning at 5 p.m. and again Sunday, July 1 at 7 p.m. Contestants will be judged on talent, originality and stage presence. The winner will be announced and will perform again later in evening July 1.
