Coach's comments

Mike Cavey, head coach for Apalachee's baseball team
"We played good ball last week and we hope to keep the momentum on the upswing. The boys have been playing hard and hopefully it's about to start paying off."

Ryan McDeermond, head coach for Apalachee’s girls tennis team
"We played three region matches last week, won one and lost two. Habersham was a really close match but we fell short due to a strong showing in singles play by Habersham. We swept them in doubles but they swept us in singles which is all you have to do to win a match. Madison County wasn't even close. We still have some work to do before we can begin to compete with them on a regular basis. They have an extremely strong lineup all the way down and showed us that by beating us 5-0. Our win was versus Clarke Central 4-1. We lost at the No. 3 singles spot but won everything else in that match. I was proud of the way the girls played and how they have grown up as a team this year. We still have some work to do but I am returning most of my starters for next season."

Ben Arms, head coach for Winder-Barrow girls soccer
"The Ladydoggs varsity soccer team defeated Rockdale County 4-1 Tuesday night. Clara Tapplin scored 3 goals and Ashly Phan scored off an Ashley Hagenbaugh corner kick. Sydney Freeman had an assist. The Ladydoggs soccer team fell behind 2-1 to Loganville on Friday as the first half buzzer went off with their sole goal coming from Clara Tapplin on an assist from Taylor West. The Ladydoggs tied the game in the second half on a goal by Ashley Phan with an assist from Jessie McWhorter. But they quickly fell behind again 3-2 on a counter from the Lady Devils minutes later. West would tie the game 3-3 with 12 minutes left and it looked like the game would go into overtime as the clock wound down. The Ladydoggs pressed the keeper with shots and corner kicks in those few minutes left and found gold as Georgia Stepp headed the ball into the net on an Ashley Hagenbaugh corner kick with less than four minutes to go. The girls would then hold on for the victory and improve their region record to 4-2 with their sights on another berth to the state playoffs. We picked up two region wins last week and this helped move us into a tie for second place. The girls played an exciting game on Friday in their come from behind win. But they will need to cut down their mistakes when we go to Apalachee Friday night for a 6 p.m. game. This game will be for bragging rights for the year and for an important region game."
