Coach's comments

Mike Cavey, head coach for Apalachee's baseball team
"We lost to Archer on Tuesday 9-8. We blew a lead with two outs in the last inning by making a few errors and then we couldn't score in the bottom of the last inning. We did not play defense very well or pitch very well. On Friday, we beat Mountain View 3-1. We played error free defensively and had great pitching by Ryan Shorter. We were tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the sixth and Thomas Kline came up with a key hit and we took the lead 2-1 and then scored again on a wild pitch to make it 3-1. Shorter shut them down in the top of the seventh for the win."

Dan Woschitz, head coach for Apalachee's boys tennis team
"After racing out to a 2-0 lead (versus) Clarke Central at Bishop Park in Athens, things got a little wobbly for the Apalachee boys tennis team. Michael Duchesne out to a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles, winning his third straight match. Then 30 seconds later the undefeated (3-0) No. 1 doubles team of Jamie Heglund and Brandon Tovar won 6-0, 6-2. Alex Soubannarath (No. 1 singles) recovered from a 2-6 first set loss with a 6-0 shutout in the second set, so thing looked pretty good. From there the 'wobbly' came into play, as the undefeated (4-0) No. 2 doubles team of Aaron Brown and Lee Vue had to default their match, because Brown, a senior, injured a ligament in his knee and is most likely out for the season. Clarke Central seized the momentum from there and won the third set at No. 1 singles and won a close two set match at No. 3 singles to pick up the victory 3-2 over the Wildcats. Apalachee falls to 2-3 on the season and 1-2 in Region 8AAAA North."

Ryan McDeermond, head coach for Apalachee’s girls tennis team
"Monday evening we played at Monroe Area and won 5-0 and won additionally in an exhibition match as well. It feels good to get the first win. The girls played great and had a lot of fun in the process. We did not drop a single set in this match, which made the win that much more special."

Heather Lundy, head coach for Winder-Barrow girls tennis
"We lost to Flowery Branch High School 0-5. This will be the team to beat in the entire region this year. We had tough matches and won only six games the entire match. They are new to our region and have certainly let everyone know they are here. ... We played Habersham Central High School and lost 1-4. They were a descent team, but the weather was certainly not on anyone's side. It was in the 40s, there were 20-plus mph winds and it sprinkled rain on and off during the matches played after the sun went down. It was a heartbreaking loss, but from the looks of things, it will be between us and Habersham for the No. 3 spot for the north side of our region."
