The following information was released by the Winder Police Department following the shooting at Sandy Creek Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
In light of recent events and a recent increase in concern from parents and citizens of Winder and Barrow County, The Winder Police Department would like to assure all citizens that plans are in place to keep our schools safe and secure.
Members of the Winder Police Department, Barrow County Schools and the Barrow County Sheriff’s Department have all been in collaboration this weekend to review the security measures that are already in place for our school system.
Both the Winder Police and the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office have maintained a strong working relationship with Barrow County Schools for over a decade now by providing highly trained School Resource Officers to protect the safety of all those who are a part of the school system. It is the intent of the Winder Police Department to let every citizen know that the care and safety of our children and those that serve them will always be of the highest priority.
Please understand that security measures are now, and have always been, in place to protect our schools. Any questions or concerns can be directed to the Winder Police Department by calling our direct line at 770-867-2156 or by using the department’s anonymous tip line that can be located at www.cityofwinder.com under the “public safety” section.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families in Connecticut.
