Schools Required to Have Governance Teams Under Charter System

Barrow County Schools will host initial training on the role of School Governance Teams on May 27.

Under the new charter system status, each school in Barrow is required to have a group of parents and community members to form a School Governance Team.

In preparation for the transition to a charter system, Barrow County Schools is asking anyone interested in being a part of these teams to attend a training session.

The school system will host initial training on the role of these teams from 8:40 to 10:40 a.m. May 27 at . Those who plan to attend should contact Suzanne Black be e-mailing sblack@barrow.k12.ga.us or by calling 770-867-4527.

Charter systems are given increased flexibility in exchange for meeting standards for higher accountability that are based on achievement goals in the charter. The increased flexibility provides opportunities for teachers, administrators, parents, community members and the school board to have more local control determining the educational needs of students.
