Open Houses Set for Input on Proposed School Attendance Zones

The Board of Education will hold two open houses to accept comments and suggestions on the proposed rezonings within the Apalachee cluster.

Moving forward with plans to rezone its Apalachee cluster of schools, the Barrow County Board of Education will hold open houses to allow community input.

Two public open houses have been scheduled to allow parents and community members to comment on the realignment of school attendance zones for elementary and middle schools within the Apalachee cluster.

The rezonings are intended to ease overcrowding at Bethlehem Elementary School. The school, which serves students living in the southernmost part of the county, is approaching 1,000 students compared to Auburn Elementary’s 550.

Other elementary schools within the Apalachee cluster are Kennedy and Yargo.

The first open house will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 15 at , followed by the second open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 16 at .

Maps of the proposed attendance zones will be available for viewing at each location, along with form for comments and suggestion.

The Board of Education will also accept written comments and suggestions, which can be submitted by mail or dropped off until noon Feb. 18.The address is Barrow County Schools, 179 W. Athens St., Winder, Georgia 30680, and correspondences should be made to the attention of the superintendent.

Parents would be notified of any changes in the school their child is attending on March 3.
