Lanier Technical College to Host GED Orientation at Winder-Barrow Campus

Teens and adults who wish to enroll in Lanier Tech's General Education Development Program in Winder, Statham or Auburn are encouraged to attend the next orientation session Friday, Jan. 27.


In addition to providing a wide variety of academic courses that run the gamut from accounting and business management to solar energy technology and welding, Lanier Technical College also offers an Adult Education Program that features General Education Development and English literacy classes free of charge to students.

Before enrolling in GED classes at Lanier Technical College or registering for the GED test itself, participation in an orientation is strongly recommended. Orientations include activities such as taking the diagnostic assessment test, watching a video about the use of the calculator on the GED test and writing a brief essay detailing why the student wishes to obtain a GED. 

Adults who are 20 years of age or older and wish to enroll in GED classes in Winder, Statham or Auburn are invited to attend the next orientation session from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27 at Lanier Tech’s Winder-Barrow Campus. Participants should plan to arrive 15 minutes early and bring a state issued picture ID, paper and pencil. In the event that they have received a 096 or 097 letter from a technical college, they are asked to please bring it to orientation, as well.

Teenagers ages 16 to 19 who also wish to enroll in GED classes in Winder, Statham or Auburn must obtain a registration packet from the Lanier Tech Winder prior to being admitted to orientation. For future orientation dates, call the Winder-Barrow Coalition for Adult and Continuing Education at (770) 868-4089.

Following orientation, those who opt for instruction can expect exposure to beginning reading, writing and math all the way through to high school completion via the General Education Development Program. Through Lanier Tech’s GED Program, the following services are offered at no cost:

  • Assessment of skills
  • Personal attention from teachers and tutors
  • Use of textbooks and computers
  • Individualized instruction
  • A comprehensive educational plan for each student
  • Life skills instruction
  • Materials to utilize while studying at home
