Barrow County Schools and the Barrow County Chamber of Commerce are both major supporters of the Partners in Education Program. Through the P.I.E. Program, local businesses and civic organizations voluntarily partner with area schools to mutually help one another by strengthening school programs and enhancing the local community’s economic growth.
There are upwards of 90 businesses around the county that take part in this very important initiative, including Jackson EMC, , , , the Kiwanis Club of Winder, River Hills Church, Publix, Barrow County Farm Bureau, , , Liberty Mutual, , Waffle House, Star Academy, Community Bank and Trust, and more.
While Barrow County businesses and organizations may elect to partner with individual schools on a variety of levels from one year to the next — such as monetary donations that can be used to purchase much-needed school equipment or the contribution of items for use during a school event — one of the most popular and appetizing ways restaurants will partner with local schools is through Spirit Nights.
During Spirit Nights a portion of proceeds from a designated evening’s sales goes back to the partner school in a show of support for that school’s programs, as well as a way of saying “thank you” for sending patrons to the restaurant. In exchange, students and their families are encouraged to dine out at a P.I.E. partner restaurant on their specific school’s Spirit Night. By merely expressing that they are there for Spirit Night and ordering dinner, Barrow County families will not only help stimulate the local economy by enjoying a meal out at a community restaurant, but they will also be showing their school spirit and doing their part to help their school.
To witness Spirit Night in action — even if you don’t have school-aged kids — Bethlehem Elementary School has two Spirit Nights scheduled for the month of February. Spirit Night will be held Wednesday, Feb. 8 and Spirit Night will be held Wednesday, Feb. 22.
