Barrow County Schools Recognized for Use of Technology

The Barrow County School System has been recognized for its use of an administrative technology known as eBOARD.

eBOARDsolutions has announced the winners for the first eBOARD Awards of Excellence.

Barrow County Schools was named the top system for best overall use of eBOARD, second (tied with Forsyth County School) for best use of meetings modules and second in best use of the strategic plan module.

“We are thrilled to have received the Awards of Excellence for 2011,” said Wanda Creel, Barrow County Schools superintendent. “eBOARD has provided Barrow County Schools with a collaborative communications and monitoring tool that ensures that our systemic process is aligned at the district level and cascaded to each individual school. Our leadership team has worked very hard and we are humbled to see our work recognized publicly."

The awards program was designed to recognize and showcase best practices in school governance and leadership in the areas of strategic plan management, meetings administration and internal and external communications.

School systems that participated used a self-assessment tool that scored their use of the eBOARD technology as well as submitted responses to questions about how they use the collaborative technology to be more transparent and accountable, align the work of the organization back to their strategic plans and become a more efficient and effective organization allowing them to focus on student success in their school system.

Winners were recognized June 17, 2011, in Savannah at the Georgia School Boards Association's Summer Conference and Delegate Assembly.

The complete list of 2011 eBOARD Awards of Excellence winners are:

Best Overall Use of eBOARD

  • 1st — Barrow County Schools
  • 2nd — (Tie) City Schools of Decatur and Richmond County Schools
  • 3rd — Jeff Davis County Schools

Best Use of Meetings Module

  • 1st — City Schools of Decatur
  • 2nd — (Tie) Barrow County Schools and Forsyth County Schools
  • 3rd — Georgia Department of Education

Best Use of Strategic Plan Module

  • 1st — Fayette County Schools
  • 2nd — Barrow County Schools
  • 3rd — Richmond County Schools
