Graduation Rate for Barrow County Schools Surpasses State Average

The graduation rate for the class of 2013 marks the first time in the No Child Left Behind era that the school system graduation rate has been higher than the state average.

Of the students who enrolled as freshman during the 2009-2010 school year, 72.1 percent of those who enrolled in Barrow County Schools graduated compared to 71.5 percent of students statewide.

For 12 years, Barrow County Schools have trailed the statewide rate. The graduation rate for the class of 2013 marks the first time in the No Child Left Behind era that the school school system graduation rate has been higher than the state average according to a statement from Barrow County Schools.

Apalachee High School principal Glenn Wilson said his school's 78.9 percent graduation rate was a "direct reflection of the dedication and hard work of our faculty, staff, and students."

Winder-Barrow High School principal Al Darby holds a similar view.

“The growth in our overall graduation rate is a reflection of student and teacher commitment to academic rigor," he said. "Our focus to ensure college and workplace readiness for all students is a continued goal at Winder-Barrow High School.”
