Barrow County School System Asks Stakeholders to Participate in Survey

The Barrow County School System wants to gauge community support for a grant application.

According to the Georgia Department of Education, the Race to the Top fund is a $4 billion grant opportunity provided in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to support new approaches to school improvement. Funds are made available in the form of competitive grants. 

Superintendent Wanda Creel sent the following request out in an e-mail from the school system. 

Dear Barrow County School System and Community Stakeholders,

The Barrow County School System is preparing a proposal in response to the national Race to the Top (RT3) District grant invitation.  The grant will provide funds for the BCSS to continue moving forward as a K-12 Research Charter District and the means to build on the innovations we have created over the past few years in advanced collaborative teaching techniques and focused application of technology to expand teaching and learning opportunities for students and teachers.  The overarching goal of our proposal is to produce a highly innovative and effective teaching and learning environment that will present students with multiple individualized learning opportunities, including the opportunity to pursue their passion in areas they find personally rewarding, while also ensuring mastery of the standard curriculum requirements.
