Back to School in Barrow: What You Should Know for the 2013-14 School Year
Students will return to class Wednesday, Aug. 7.
Two weeks from today, Wednesday, July 24, students in the Barrow County School System will return to classrooms and begin a new school year.
Two weeks?!?! Yep. That's what's left of summer vacation. So Patch is giving you some back-to-school info in preparation of the big day, Wednesday, Aug. 7.
Open house
Before students return to schools on Aug. 7, parents can meet their teachers and get valuable information before the first day back, including details on transportation. Open houses will be held Aug. 5. Elementary schools will hold open house from 8 to 11 a.m., middle shcools from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and high schools from noon to 2 p.m.
An increase in students
The school system projects a 1.5 to 2 percent increase in its student population this coming year, totaling about 13,200 students.

- Fall break: Oct. 15-18, with the Columbus Day holiday falling on Monday, Oct. 14
- Thanksgiving break: Nov. 25-29
- Winter break: Dec. 23-Kan. 6
- CRCT testing: April 2-11
- Spring break: April 14-18
