Ramblings of a Mom

This and that, thoughts of an overworked and tired mom.

This is a collection of thoughts from a vacation we took 4 years ago.

Day 1 in DC was filled with peril.  We decided to drive into DC from Sterling VA and it wasn't easy.  Virginia is severely lacking in road signs and helpful things like that.  We finally found DC and walked everywhere.  EVERYWHERE.  It just about killed me.  Got to see monuments and such but tomorrow we need to approach it differently.  We didnt even get to the Smithsonian, we couldnt find it!
Day 2  in Washington was more fun .  We took the train in and ended up right in front of the Smithsonian.  We explored the Natural History museum.  I see why folks say you need more then 1 day to go through the Smithsonian.  We just made it into 1 of the 4 buildings housing the museum and didn't even make it to the 2nd floor.  Today we will go back and go see the gems  and the Hope Diamond.  The gift shop is filled with stuffed animals and dinosaurs.  I cant wait to see what the gift shop for the gemstones is filled with!
We walked into the prehistoric section and were completely blown away.  Whole dinosaurs everywhere.  Incredible stuff.  However my kids weren't all that impressed.  All I heard was "I'm hungry"  "I'm thirsty" "Make him leave me alone" and it was then and there that I understood the answer to an age old mystery, why did the dinosaurs become extinct?....they became parents.  We ended up feeding the offspring in the extremely expensive cafe downstairs then we were dragged through the equally expensive gift shops.  Hopefully tomorrow will be better or they will see a Momasaurus Rex on a rampage.
Day 3.  Today was the last day we went to DC.  We were hoping to get to the Fallen Officer Memorial and Arlington tomorrow but I dont think we will have the time.  Today we went back to the Smithsonian and went to the 2nd floor.  Lots of pretty stuff up there.  AND YES THERE WAS A GIFT SHOP!  Smart move of them to conveniently place a gift shop geared to the exhibits on that particular floor on each floor.  Kids had a good  time and saw alot of cool stuff, especially in the gift shops.
Stuff there is so expensive.  "Yes son, you were supposed to go to college this year but you just had to have that dinosaur puppet on a stick when you were 6.  Sorry"
The food is so expensive too.  Today we all got thirsty and decided it would be more affordable to share 2 drinks.  Still cost us almost 6 bucks with a discount card I have.  Juices there were 4 bucks.  Needless to say we chose the ever so healthy soda.
