POLL: Do Bigger Jackpots Make You More Likely to Buy a Mega Millions Ticket?

The jackpot for the Dec. 17 drawing is an estimated $586 million.

Your odds of being struck by lightning in any given year are one in 500,000. The odds of being hit by falling airplane parts are one in 10 million. The odds that a vending machine will fall on you and kill you: one in 112 million. As unlikely as these occurrences may be, the odds of one of these events happening to you are far better than the one in 259 million chance you'll win Mega Millions. Still, millions of players will flock to lottery retailers to snatch up tickets for big jackpots such as the estimated $586 million top prize for the Dec. 17 drawing.

Why are we more tempted to buy tickets when the jackpots go up? Well, who couldn't use a half billion dollars and isn't the thought of winning enough entertainment to justify the $1 ticket price?

Are you more likely to buy a Mega Millions ticket when the jackpot gets really big? Let us know in the comments or vote in our poll. Note: This is not a scientific poll. It is for entertainment purposes only.
