POLL: Will You Lose Your Job to a Machine?

An expert in artificial intelligence predicts machines will take the place of human office workers more quickly than expected.

In just a few years, machines could replace most clerical workers according to the CEO of an artificial intelligence (AI) company.

Andrew Anderson, CEO of UK-based AI company Celaton, told the Daily Mail he believes office jobs will "disappear completely to the point where machines will replace humans" -- in less than five years.

"I'm afraid it’s now a reality that most clerical workers will disappear. This has profound implications for jobs of course, but huge technological advancements are being made all the time and artificial intelligence (AI) has now become very sophisticated to the extent that it can think and learn like a human," Anderson said.

According to Anderson, the pace of change in the AI field is accelerating more quickly than most are prepared to handle. While Anderson admits the technology could negatively impact jobs, he maintains the benefits to customers will be great.

AI expert Massimo Barbato agreed.

"By 2025, machines will be able to learn, adjust, exercise judgement, and re-programme themselves," Barbato was quoted as saying in the Daily Mail article. "The hardest hit would be professionals working in sales, education, healthcare, IT, management, finance and law – knowledge-based jobs, where analytics tools, mobile internet devices, apps or web-based services such as the cloud can be developed to outperform humans."
