Woodall Issues Statement on President's Address

Congressman says the president's plans are based on the 'same well-worn and failed philosophy that more government spending is the best help for our economy'.

Congressman Rob Woodall issued the following statement in response to the President Obama's speech to a joint session of Congress on Thursday evening.

“While I appreciate that President Obama took the time to address the American people tonight, it is clear that his plans are based on the same well-worn and failed philosophy that more government spending is the best help for our economy. The President knows better. For example, and to his credit, just last week he finally began supporting American job creators with his decision to order the EPA to stand down on its efforts to burden the economy with new air regulations. That was more of a step toward job creation that anything I have seen from him in his entire term in office. Peeling back the layers of government regulations currently on the books will create jobs. Forget the status quo rhetoric. The President and Congress cannot ‘do’ a magical something that creates jobs. The fact of the matter is that we will not see any more jobs until this government starts undoing the job-killing damage that is over-taxation and over-regulation.

“The government does not create jobs; people do. The President has already implemented an $800 billion stimulus plan and over $3 trillion more in deficit spending, and yet unemployment remains at record high levels. Another $447 billion in new spending will be just as ineffective, and will in fact dig the hole deeper.

“If Washington simply steps out of the way, we will again begin to see the innovation and entrepreneurship for which this nation is known around the world. America’s job creators do not need Washington to tell them how to succeed; they need Washington to get out of the way and give them the freedom to succeed.

“I remain focused on getting this economy back on track by cutting out the bureaucratic excess—from the red-tape regulations to the out-of-control government spending—and providing our job creators and risk-takers with the certainty they thirst for. In doing so, we ensure that America reaches her full potential.”
