Winder Council to Consider Changing Customer Center Hours

The city is considering opening its customer center an hour later.

The city of Winder will hold a called meeting Tuesday, July 16, and will consider changing the hours for its customer center, among other voting items. 

Current hours for the center, which handles utility billing, are  8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The city council will consider opening the customer center and hour later, at 9 a.m. According to the meeting agenda, this change will allow employees additional time for training and updates and will decrease costs. 

The council will also meet for a joint executive session with the Public Facilities Authority before considering voting items. The meeting agenda is as follows:

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE VOTING ITEM(S)

1. Chimney's Golf Course: The Council to consider allowing the City of Winder’s Public Facility Authority to exercise its first right of refusal in the buyout of the leasehold estate in the Chimney's Golf Course in the event that a new lease cannot be negotiated.

2. Change in Operating Hours- Request to change the operating hours for the Customer Center beginning September 1, 2013 to 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Monday through Friday. This would allow the employees extra time for training, employee updates, and increased fiscal controls.

3. Tractor Purchase- Request to surplus in the form of a trade-in of a Ford 7740 tractor and 307BH (7 ft bush hog) and purchase a Kubota L4600DT and 5 ft rotary cutter bush hog.

4. Fleet Maintenance Service Contract - A request to award the City of Winder's fleet maintenance to Akins Ford located at 220 West May Street, Winder GA.   This contract will cover the maintenance of City vehicles as  needed    for  a  period  of  two  years  and  has  the  provision of  a  30  day  Termination for Convenience clause.

5. Contract for Annexation and Economic Services - A request to extended the contract for Mike Rice for a six month period of August 1, 2013 to January 31, 2014 to assist the City with incorporating within the City's boundaries county islands as well as other areas of annexation.

6. An Event Permit for Kickin' Cancer 5K sponsored by Will to Win on August 3, 2013.  Registration will begin at 6:00 a.m. with the race starting at 7:30 a.m. at Marion Street.  It will end at approximately 9:00 a.m. at the Winder Barrow High School track.   A map of the race route is attached.   Temporary road closures of the streets on the race route will be needed.
