Winder Council Members Unanimously Approve Annexations that will Extend City Limits Almost to 316

Effective Jan. 1, the Winder City Limits will extend to Exchange Boulevard, a roadway that runs parallel to Ga. Highway 316 and includes the future site of Gateway Station, a 14,000-square-foot development currently under construction. 

Members of the Winder City Council voted unanimously during a meeting Tuesday, Dec. 4, to annex five properties into the city limits, including the property where Athens Regional First Care, an urgent health care facility, is located. Two properties along Punkin Junction Road were also approved for annexation and rezoning within the city's zoning guidelines. 

City Planning Director Barry Edgar said additional requests for annexation are forthcoming. The annexations and rezonings are part of the city's plans to extend its city limits to 316. In September, Winder City Administrator Donald Toms outlined the city's reasons for seeking to expand its boundaries. The Bethlehem Town Council has also discussed annexation in the past couple months.
