Statham Council Reads through Three Proposed Ordinances

  • Who was present: Council Members Joe Hayes, Betty Lyle and Gayle Steed Mayor Robert Bridges and City Clerk Susan Gabriel, Police Chief Steve Martin and city attorney Thomas Mitchell
  • Top agenda items:
  1. The council is reading through three new ordinances. A property tax collection ordinance would allow the clerk to issue letters to the chief of police authorizing him to levy and sell properties to collect past due property taxes. A parking bill would require that cars only park with the flow of traffic. There is also a special tax district ordinance.
  2. Betty Lyle gave the council an update on the Sunflower Festival, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 11. There are currently 25 vendors confirmed for the event.
  3. Gayle Steed gave an update on the dog park committee, which will be raffling off a golf cart at the Sunflower Festival and plan to host a bingo charity event at the American Legion tentatively scheduled for Aug. 20.
